Faculty Contract Renewal and Rank Advancement FAQ: Your content: Boxes

Overview

You have four box type choices: Standard, Tabbed, Gallery, and Profile. To add one to your page, just click anywhere on a link that says 'Add box.' Below are demonstrations of each box type.

Standard box example

This is a standard box: most of the time, this will be the type of box you want. It is flexible enough to allow you to insert text, links, images, and other types of information. To add any of these types of information, click on the 'Add/Reorder' drop-down to make a selection:

The 'Rich Text' (which also can handle images) and 'Document/File' options alone are more than enough to handle most users' needs. If you are curious about the other types, ask a librarian for more information.

If you upload confidential documents/files: Be sure to password protect confidential files when uploading. If you do not, anyone can in theory read them if they have the URL for that file. Do not give the file a name or description that you wouldn't want anyone else to see - even if others can't open your file, they can see that it exists when logged in to LibGuides.

Once any content is entered, you can edit this content by clicking on the 'edit' icon to the bottom right of the box:

Tabbed box example

This is a tabbed box - pretty slick!

Use these to convey longer pieces of information in a way that is organized and not too cluttered.

Moving and reordering boxes

To reorder boxes like these, just click on the 'Page' button and choose 'Reorder/move' -> 'Boxes' :

Comments: Where'd they go?

The comment feature from the old version of LibGuides has been changed; you can no longer insert comments at the bottom of any box. Now, instead of comments, there are two discussion board options available for every guide. One is a 'discussion board' type page (tab) that you can create in your guide. Anyone can post to that board, so long as they have a LibGuides username/password.

The second is an internal discussion board, only available to users who have editing access to your guide. You can access the internal discussion board by clicking on the bubble button in the top right of your screen:
