Filmmaking: Finding Films

DVD call number cheat sheet

The library's DVDs are located in the annex building, on the other side of the courtyard. If you want to take one home, just bring the case to the library front desk and the desk worker will check it out for you.

Nonfiction: The non-fiction DVDs are sorted by subject using the Library of Congress system of letters and numbers (example: the documentary Helvetica is under Z250.5, which is in the 'Typography' section of call numbers). Find out more about this call number system here under 'How do I use a call number?' and 'What do those letters and numbers mean?'

Fiction: Most fiction films are in the PN1995.9 area, while most television programs are under PN1992.8. Within these two call number areas, the DVDs are grouped roughly by genre (that's why you see all the horror films together, science fiction together, etc.)

Animated films have their own special call number, under NC1766.

Streaming Video

Kanopy Streaming Video offers a good collection of classic films, foreign films, and documentary titles. You can browse their collection directly by going to Woodbury's Kanopy site, or searching the library catalog and filtering your results to the 'eVideo' format.

Finding films in the catalog

Our library offers DVDs in addition to a collection of streaming films offered through Kanopy Streaming Video.

To search for any of these films, simply go to our library catalog and type in the film's name, and any other keywords that you think might be helpful (like a director or actor's name). To just see DVDs in your results, you can use the DVD filter checkbox under "Video."
