Item retrieval / Scanning

Need to pick up one or more items but don't want to search through the stacks? We'll gather them for you! Need a scan of a book chapter or article? We can help with that too! See below for instructions.

How to request item retrieval

  1. Search for the item you need in the WU Library catalog.
  2. Click on the title.
  3. Click on the “Place Hold” button.
  4. You will be prompted to log into your WU Library account. (This is the number found on your WU ID card.)
  5. Fill out the brief form and click the “Submit” button.
  6. Once your item has been retrieved you will receive an email confirmation. If you are cleared for campus access your item will be held at the library circulation desk for one week.

IMPORTANT NOTES: According to the strictures of US copyright law (Title 17, United States Code), we cannot provide more than one chapter of any particular book to the same patron during a calendar year, nor can we provide more than one article from a particular issue of a periodical for the same period. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction not be "used for any purposes other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. Please consult your subject librarian for more information.
