Writing Center: Preparing for Your Appointment

In-Person Appointments

In-person tutorials can last anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes, and are recommended over "online" tutorials for beginning writers. This session is an opportunity for the tutor to discuss your work with you and a chance for you to ask questions.

Our writing center is located in the Whitten Student Center. Hang a right at the front desk, then a left, and walk all the way to the back of the building. We hope to see you soon!

You can bring your paper either in hard copy format or on your laptop/tablet. Either way works for us!

You do NOT need to have your paper started-- we're also here to help you during the brainstorming, researching, and outlining stages.

Please bring everything with you that will help us understand your assignment better. Your essay prompt/assignment sheet, any readings or sources from class, and any writing you've already done helps us get the full picture.

Online Help

Submit your paper as a Microsoft Word document so that we can add comments; no PDF files or Pages documents, please :)

Be sure to split your paper into two sections if it is more than 10 pages-- this allows two tutors to review your work at once.

You should get feedback via email within 24 hours, so keep an eye on your inbox!

Students can submit papers through our online form, and provide the assignment criteria and information about their paper and what they need help with. A tutor will review the paper, suggest changes and add comments, and send it back within 24 hours (it might be longer during high-traffic periods, like midterms or finals).
